It's time to have fun learning.
It's been a secret for a long time: we learn better by having fun. Yes, it is (and not just because we say so, but because it's been proven by scientists). For a very simple reason: the game offers the opportunity to practice. The more we practise something, the better we retain it.
So what better way to do this than with a ESCAPE GAME ?
You haven't heard of this new concept that's all the rage here and elsewhere?
Explanation in one sentence (because it's you): Escape games are life-size games that appeal to all your senses. The best way to understand them is to actually play them. Basically, though, it's a bit like going to the cinema and stepping inside (not behind) the screen to become the hero.
We're not going to go into all the different types of memory here, or the fact that learning is best achieved by multiplying sources and applications. (But as it has been proven that we learn better by listening, reading, manipulating, writing... than by simply listening, our basic question has already been answered to some extent).
Escape games have everything going for them because, as well as being a great way to practice :
- The fun aspect motivates participants.
- Puzzles to be solved by several players encourage collaborative thinking, but also independence.
- The time trial demands a great deal of concentration, thought and organisation.
- Immersing yourself in an unfamiliar environment opens up new perspectives and makes you curious (in a good way).
But the wonderful thing is that this applies to everyone: adults and children alike!
And the work can/should continue afterwards. For example, once you've done the PIRATES room with your child, all you have to do is encourage them (if they don't feel like it themselves, which seems unlikely) to find out more about the subject. For example, you could take them to the media library to do some research (learn the difference between privateers and pirates, find out how people lived in those distant times, etc.).
So there you have it: the escape game is both a place of learning and a fantastic springboard.
